Semana 10: martes el 31 de octubre

Resumen:
I returned the tests.  You can correct them and hand them in on Thursday for some additional points. Hablamos de dónde les gustaría vivir.  Jugamos a Bingo:  ¿Qué te gustaría hacer? (actividad oral). Vimos verbos irregulares en la forma "yo."

La tarea:
1) LR #3 is due Friday by midnight.  Remember to follow the rubric and answer 4 others. OJO:  If you don't do something new, and I don't think you are challenging yourself, I will take points off! 
2) On the back of the handout you got in class, there is an activity called "¿Cómo son ustedes?  Answer it for yourself in the left hand column.  During class time, you will interview two other classmates.
3)  Do this short exercise for homework.  You don't need to print this out, just write down the answers and bring them in.
4) SAM Capítulo 3 Actividades 8, 9, 16.  Here is a handout on irregular verbs in the "yo" form. We will have a quiz on these 3 SAM activities, also on 12 and 14 from last week.

Resumen:
En clase vimos las descripciones fijas (físicas y de personalidad) de la gente, usando el verbo SER, y vimos las emociones y estados de ánimo que usan el verbo ESTAR.  Checamos la tarea sobre los lugares.  

La tarea:
1) Do the handout in which you have to decide whether to use the verb SER or ESTAR.
2) Read the handout that is titled "¿Te gustaría...?" and put a check next to the activities that you would like to do.
This is in preparation for a speaking activity on Tuesday.
3) SAM Capitulo 3 Actividades 2, 3, 6, 12, 14.  Expect a quiz on these.
4) Study quizlet sets "SER + adj." and "ESTAR + adj."

Learning Report #3 will be due next Friday (Nov. 3).  Please challenge yourself.  It must be a different activity than the past two.

Resumen:
On Tuesday some people came and caught up on the work they were missing.

Hoy, jugamos a Tic Tac Toe para practicar los verbos regulares, y luego practicamos las conjugaciones verbalmente en pares.  Revisamos sus opiniones sobre las tres versiones de "La Bamba."  Empezamos a checar las repuestas del paquete, pero no terminamos.

La tarea:
1) Prepare for a midterm test based on the SAM homework activities on:
   a)  regular verb conjugations
   b) the verbs ESTAR, SER, TENER, IR and LLAMARSE
   c) gustar
   d) Ir a + infinitive ("going to")
   e) tener que + infinitive ("have to")

2) Check your answers in the packet you did for today.  Here are the answers.

Semana 7: jueves el 12 de octubre

Resumen:
Hicimos una actividad oral con preguntas acerca de nuestros gustos ("¿Te gusta la música clásica?"  etc.).  Revisamos el handout acerca de nuestros pendientes ("Tengo que ir al supermercado." etc.) y luego hablamos de nuestros planes ("Voy a celebrar mi cumpleaños el fin de semana." etc.)  Escuchamos la canción "Vivir mi vida" de Marc Anthony y hicimos un ejercicio para observar su uso de "voy a + infitivo."  Observamos la conjugación de los verbos regulares -AR, -ER y -IR y notamos los patrones, similitudes y diferencias entre las formas.  Tomamos un quiz sobre el vocabulario de los días de la semana y las asignaturas.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Next Tuesday is "Reading Day."   I will offer class but attendance is optional.  If even one person comes, it will be a private class.  If three people come, it is a semi-private class.  We will review any questions you have about verb conjugations, and we will play some games and watch a video. We'll have a good time, if you come.  No problem if you don't.

1) Learning Report #2.  I will move the deadline to Tuesday the 17th at midnight.
2) I gave you a big packet on verb conjugations.  If you come on Tuesday, do up to end of the -AR verb section.  By Thursday, all sections need to be done, except the Tic Tac Toe game (that's for class).  You will also need to watch the video Soleá with the activity that is on the last page.

Resumen:
Tomamos el quiz.  Hablamos de la posesión de objetos personales ("Es mi reloj."  "El libro es de Miguel."  "Las llaves son de Andrés."  "¿Es tu cuaderno?"  etc.) en grupos pequeños.  Recibieron hojas para escuchar a niños que hablan sobre las cosas que tienen en sus mochilas.  Hablamos de gustos ("Me gusta dormir."  "Te gustan las manzanas.")  

La tarea:
1) Go to this website and listen to the three videos and check off (poner una palomita) next to the things the kids mention that are in their mochilas:  http://zachary-jones.com/zambombazo/yo-soy-franky-que-hay-en-mi-bolso/.  If you need the handout (PDF) you can download it there too.  Scroll down to find the three videos.
2) Go to this website and choose three different videos (interviews with musicians) to watch and check off on the handout I gave you what they say they like.  The PDFs are also right there on the page with every video.  Make sure you're using the right handout for the video (it will say if you need the PDF that is  general, 2a temporada or 3a temporada -- general, second, third season):  http://zachary-jones.com/zambombazo/tag/que-le-gusta-hacer/.
3) SAM Capitulo 2 Actividades 5, 6, 8, 12.
4) Quizlet set about days of the week and about college subjects (las asignaturas).

NOTE:  Learning Report #2 will be due a week from tomorrow (el 13 de octubre).  If you picked up the handout "La evolución de La Bamba," we'll use that next week.

Resumen:
Hablamos del movimiento estudiantil de 1968 en Mexico y el masacre de Tlatelolco el 2 de octubre de 1968.  Nombramos los objetos en una mochila.  Jugamos a "charades" para practicar los verbos nuevos.  Revisamos las maneras de identifcar los sustantivos por género y número, y hicimos una actividad.

On Thursday we will take a quiz on the verbs and the personal objects in the Quizlet sets assigned for today.  We will talk about our likes and dislikes and some possessions.  I will also review the handout given today on  how to access Rosetta Stone from Blackboard and answer questions about that assignment for the end of semester.

La tarea:
1) SAM Capitulo 2 Actividades 1, 2, 3, 4, 13, 14
2) Study for the quiz that will include terms from the Quizlet sets and could include questions from the SAM activities assigned in (1) above.
3) Practicar la cancion infantil "Me gusta..."
