Resumen:
Ustedes escribieron un descripción de "una persona que admiro."  Luego, tomaron el quiz.  Luego, hicimos una actividad sobre preguntas y respuestas.  Para terminar, escribieron en fichas el nombre de una persona famosa.  Intercambiamos fichas y tenían que conversar como si fueran las personas en sus fichas.

(You wrote a description of "someone I admire."  Then, you took the quiz.  Then, we did an activity about questions and answers.  To finish up, you wrote the name of a famous person on an index card.  We exchanged cards and you had to have conversations as if you were the person written on your card.)

MUY IMPORTANTE:  We will not have class on Thursday because I have to go to UConn.  I will see you next Tuesday, October 3rd. 

La tarea:
1) The Learning Report #1 is due Friday at midnight.  It is very important to read the rubric and follow it to get full credit!  Where is this rubric, you say?  It is a) in the syllabus  b) in an attachment in the instructions for LR #1 that you can find in Blackboard.  Remember, you must post the report to the discussion board in Blackboard (a link for it is in the left side bar).  Don't forget to answer 4 reports of your compañeros.  Each report should be a new thread and each answer made as a "reply" within the thread.
2) Study Quizlet sets "Los objetos personales" and "Las acciones."  We will have a quiz on this vocab on Tuesday.
3) SAM Capítulo 1 Actividad 22, Capitulo 2 Actividades 1, 2, 13, 14
4) LM Capitulo 2 Actividades 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7
5) One of the themes in Chapter 1 is "Hispanics in the U.S."  In the ebook, there is a section you might want to look at.  Additionally, here are two articles of interest.  This one discusses Puerto Rico's relationship with the U.S. and this one discusses Mexico's relationship with the U.S.

Resumen:
We did math calculations in Spanish to practice using numbers.  We reviewed the homework and Tuesday's quiz.  We played a Quizlet game to practice the names of different professions, and we discussed how to do the Learning Report #1.

La tarea:
1) Prepare for quiz on números 0 a 100 and ocupaciones (use the Quizlet sets to practice).
2) SAM Capítulo 1 Actividades #11, 14, 15
3) Lab Manual Capítulo 1 Actividades #9, 10
4) Learning Report #1 is due next Friday the 29th.

Resumen:
We reviewed numbers by looking at the patterns for saying them, the played Bingo to practice.  We took a quiz on nationalities, countries and capitals.  We learned the words for different occupations and then started describing famous people by name, age, nationality and profession, using a handout that should be finished for homework.

La tarea:

1) Prepare for a quiz on numbers 0-100 and occupations and saying people's ages (use the Quizlet sets to practice).
2) Finish the handout on describing famous people. 
3) SAM Capitulo 1 Actividades 7, 9, 11,12 (WB1-7, WB1-9, etc.)
4) Lab Manual Ch 1 # 5, 6 (LM1-5, LM1-6)

Semana 3:  Martes el 12 de septiembre

Resumen:
We watched a video of a song, read the poem In Lak' Ech, then did a practice quiz (crossword puzzle - crucigrama).  We brainstormed all the expressions we could remember for small talk, then we mixed up chatting with each other completely in Spanish.  We did a dictation of the spelling of capitals of Spanish-speaking countries to review the names of the letters of the alphabet and also the names of some capitals.

La tarea (Please note! updated):
1) Review countries and their capitals (links are below in last Tuesday's post), using Quizlet and the interactive games.
2) Review the alphabet in Spanish as needed (link is here).
3) Learn the numbers 0 to 100 (Quizlet link is here) and nationalities (Quizlet link is here).
4) SAM Capítulo 1 #1, 3, 4, 5 (WB1-1, WB1-3, WB1-4, WB1-5)
5) Listening Manual Capítulo 1 #1, 2, 3, 4 (LM1-1, LM1-2 etc.)

We will have a short quiz on Tuesday the 19th on countries & capitals (multiple choice) and a spelling dictation.

Resumen:
We reviewed part of the homework, reviewed the capitals & locations of Spanish-speaking countries, and wrote dialogues for videos with the sound turned off.

La Tarea:
1) Match the useful classroom phrases with their translations (handout given in class).
2) Learn the capitals of Latin American countries and their locations, using the resources in the post below (be ready for a quiz).
3) Review pronunciation of the alphabet (use Quizlet and the Listening Manual Activity #1).
4) On QUIA do Student Activity Manual Activity 13, 14 (WPB-12, WPB-13). Lab Manual 8, 9, 10, 11 (LMP-8, LMP-9, etc.).
5) Prepare for quiz on greetings and leavetakings, and on countries/capitals (based on the Quizlet set).
